Classes will meet one weekend ,approximately every two months, for a total of 12 sessions. In addition to treating patients, participants will develop a digital library by taking intra-oral photographs of hands-on patients and giving case presentations to the class during the Friday seminar session. There also will be time to go over case records brought from each participant’s own practice. Along with diagnosis and technique, the Friday seminar also will include the following lecture topics:

  • Etiology
  • Growth and development
  • Interceptive treatment
  • Surgical orthodontics
  • Palatal expansion
  • Impactions

Associate Fellowship Award and CDE verification upon satisfactory completion of this 12-Session comprehensive clinical orthodontic course.

The Differential Straight-Arch® Technique (or the Tip-Edge® System) is a comprehensive, fixed orthodontic appliance that facilitates learning because it is divided into three stages of treatment. Click here for an article on the technique. The technique has the following advantages:

  • It reduces the need for functional appliances, headgear, or any distalizing mechanics.
  • It reduces the need for orthognathic surgery.
  • Anterior deep bites can be opened without the need for bite planes.
  • Teeth can be easily moved without anchorage strain.

Stage I

1. Open or close the bite to an edge-to-edge incisal relationship while correcting any anteroposterior discrepancy.

2. Correct anterior crowding, rotations, or spacing.

3. Correct posterior crossbites.

Length: Six weeks to six months, depending on the malocclusion.

Stage II -

1. Close any remaining posterior spaces using limited tipping.

2. Maintain all corrections achieved in Stage I.

Length: Six weeks to four months. In nonextraction treatment, there is usually no Stage II.

Stage III -

1. Upright the roots of all teeth to ideal mesiodistal and labiolingual inclinations.

2. Maintain all corrections achieved in the first two stages.

Length: Three to six months for nonextraction treatment; nine to 12 months for extraction treatment. Force levels of more than 2oz, which could produce appreciable anchorage strain, are generally present only in Stage III.

The Comprehensive Clinical Course offers advantages not found in other orthodontic courses:

  • It is truly a hands-on experience.
  • Patients are provided for each participant.
  • There is ongoing support and case consultation with the instructor throughout the program and 1 year of monitoring privileges upon completion of the course, with current Academy membership.
  • It is an invaluable source of CDE hours at a reasonable cost.

    Why take this course?
    1) Students treat actual patients!
    2) Our program is the closest thing out there is to an orthodontic residency without having to leave / close practice and go to ortho school full time (not to mention being able to get accepted to a program).
    3) The comfort level that students will develop knowing that they are fully supported and have already been treating actual patients under an instructor's supervision.

    ·         Receive instruction with little additional help or encouragement in starting cases causing a disconnect between what is learned and what is implemented in practice

  • To facilitate your professional growth by providing an environment in which you will learn by active participation.
  • To enable you to more comprehensively service those who come to you for dental care.
  • To help you become knowledgeable and confident in using the Differential Straight-Arch Technique.

This course is intended for dentists who have little or no experience in orthodontics and want to learn to incorporate it into their practices or progress from removable appliances to a comprehensive, fixed technique. The 12-session course is a comprehensive program, not a “short weekend” program of listening and writing. This is a one-of-a-kind, hands-on orthodontic course – an extended experience requiring a commitment of time and energy.
