The Academy of Gp Orthodontics, founded by Dr. Charles D. Yates in 1987, is a nonprofit organization providing professional membership services and growth and networking opportunities through orthodontic continuing education programs for the general dentist, pedodontist and their staff. A highly qualified team of instructors, clinical instructors, and hosts provide invaluable comprehensive clinical hands-on training with direct patient treatment to ensure excellent case results.
Dr. Charles Yates started the Academy of Gp Orthodontics as a national organization incorporating a comprehensive educational program with a hands-on clinical component. He practiced in the Dallas area and incorporated orthodontics into his pediatric practice in the 1960s. He began teaching orthodontics with Dr. Dick Moore, his mentor and close colleague, in the late 1970s. In 1989 Dr. Yates retired from private practice to devote his time to the Academy and its Hands-on Program.
His vision was to create a comprehensive clinical hands-on program for general practitioners and pediatric specialists that would be modeled after an orthodontic residency.
The Academy is governed by a slate of officers, directors and an advisory board. It is registered and incorporated in the State of Texas. The organization is nationally recognized for its unique hands-on format and its membership network of general dentists and specialists striving for excellence in orthodontics.
