COURSE DEVELOPMENT:
In 2006 following the Dallas annual meeting, Drs. Victor Sun of Lindsay, Ontario, Canada and Alexander Fu of Toronto, Ontario, Canada (both enrolled in the current Tishomingo, OK hands-on course) requested a visit to Dr. Austin’s office. After spending a week in his clinic assisting him with patients, they felt this was an invaluable experience which should be made available to all Academy members. Dr. Austin developed two new courses for 2007, limited to 4 dentists per class for 4 1/2 days in his Tishomingo office with lecture on topics chosen by participants along with clinical training in his office.

PARTICIPANT RESPONSE – Dr. Igor Kaplansky (June Mini Residency Session)
“The greatest value I received from my trip to Ron’s office for the mini-residency, besides from learning many useful ortho tips and tricks, was the chance to observe how a successful ortho practice flows. I enjoyed observing Ron’s interaction with his assistants and their duties. No orthodontist in my area would let me in to observe (forget about participation) out of fear of competition. Learning ortho was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my professional career, it has become a very enjoyable and rewarding part of my practice, a great service to my patients and a wonderful exercise for my brain.”

“The course was a great combination of theory and practice. It provided another perspective and great ideas on how to incorporate orthodontics into a general practice. This experience was a unique and essential learning opportunity in my journey in orthodontic education. I commend Dr. Austin, his staff and the patients we treated for assembling such an informative week, and would like to thank them all for their friendship and the time we spent together.”
